Pulwama, Sep 30 (KNO): The residents of Gujjar Basti Tral located in south Kashmir's Pulwama district are demanding basic amenities in their area.
The locals of Gujjar Basti Karmulla told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer that they face many issues like lack of proper road connectivity, shortage of potable water and poor network connectivity.
A local resident, Shakeel Ahmad, declared the area has no proper road connectivity for about eight kilometres from the main Karmulla. As a result, people are forced to go by foot for essential tasks. He further stated that the condition of the road is very poor due to a lack of macadamisation and repair.
During emergencies, patients have to be transported on foot or on carts to reach the hospital as no attention is being given to resolving the issue, he added.
Irshad Ahmad, a local, spoke up about the struggles that locals face in obtaining daily necessities. He said that residents have to travel approximately six kilometres to obtain rations and other essential items, often using horses to transport them back home.
“There is a severe lack of proper water supply in the region, forcing us to travel to a distant spring to collect water,” Ahmad said.
He said the area also suffers from inadequate mobile network connectivity. This lack of connectivity has hit the student population particularly hard, making it challenging for them to keep up with their studies, he said.
Irshad expressed disillusionment with the administration, saying that politicians only come to the area during elections for votes, and then abandon the people until the next election.
Despite repeatedly notifying the concerned authorities, no positive action has been taken, the locals alleged.
They added that the area only has access to electricity and lacks other essential facilities. They have requested both Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Deputy Commissioner Pulwama to look into the matter—(KNO)
